London Super Temp – About Lisa
Lisa Lomax (nee Bloomfield) is daughter of a Printer who had his own business in London. She grew up in Sevenoaks, Kent, and went to the Weald of Kent Grammar School for Girls in Tonbridge. From here she went on to Oxford Brookes University where she studied for a BA in Languages for Business. Not knowing which avenue of work to take, she was interviewed and employed on a non-paid basis for the ITV Network Centre in London, initially for a year project working on a telemarketing project interviewing French media buyers and agencies. She was then offered a permanent job (paid!) as an Assistant to a Lobbyist where she used her French and German language and secretarial skills on a daily basis and frequently accompanied her boss at meetings at the European Commission in Brussels and the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Attracted by the idea of working in France and improving her French, she applied and was offered a job working at INSEAD, (one of the world's leading and largest graduate business schools in Paris) as a Bi-lingual Secretary and Fund Raiser. Disillusioned with this role, she returned to London and registered with a secretarial agency to apply for temporary work.
Whilst temping for them in various companies and firms around London, the agency offered her a permanent job as a recruitment consultant in the West End of London. A year spent here and she was invited over to another of their offices to work in the City of London; a completely different environment placing temps in banks and law firms. After a year here she joined another recruitment consultancy in the City and became manager of a team. She remained at this company for 10 years and was highly successful.
She managed a team of 6 and became one of the company's top billers; responsible for over 150 temps working as administrators, receptionists, team secretaries, legal secretaries and Personal Assistants (PAs) for companies such as KPMG, Lehman Brothers, Lloyds, Deutsche Bank, Barclays Capital, ABN Amro, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, UBS, Unilever, Prudential, Standard Chartered, ICAP, PA Consulting, to name but a few.
Armed with all these years of managing, interviewing, recruiting and placing, it struck her that if many of these candidates were fully-prepared for the London business world before walking into a job agency to register, they would be more likely to get a top, well-paid job and rewarded for their skills. This is the inspiration behind her Guide, “How to be a Super-Temp”.
